One of the things that caught me off guard was that when I originally said yes to doing this program, I was told that there would be 20-25 children. There were almost 40 children at the conference from 9 months through 17 years of age. Tuesday morning found me quickly regrouping the kids and getting some help from the conference staff. One needs to be really flexible on these trips!
There were 6 babies and they were all movers and shakers! Simeon took his first steps at the conference! Justin was well on his way to crawling before he left the conference. There was a staff person at the hotel that was really helpful with this age group. It was evident that the Thai people love babies and children!
The Preschool children were a lot of fun. There were 7 preschoolers in all and they all worked very hard. Eden memorized her very first scripture verse. It was a really big accomplishment and her parents made sure to mention it on the evaluation. When I talked with them later, they said that they could not get her to memorize scripture. She would walk away or plug her ears. So for her to learn her first verse was such a God thing! It was such a honor to see God use this program in this way! Some of these preschoolers were very knowledgeable about the Bible Stories. It was fun to ask them questions and hear their answers – one can learn so much from Preschooler!
The K-6 grade students looked at what God wants us to know about Himself by the names He chooses to use for Himself and what they tell us about Him. This was a fun time as well. They learned some Hebrew names and what they meant. They also made a banner to remind them of what they had learned. These banners were given to Jeff, as the regional director and the other one will go to the Short Term Ministry department at my church. These kids worked hard. They memorized 9 verses and had a lot of fun along the way! It was good to see some of the older kids come along side the younger ones and help them with projects!
What a joy to see parents be more rested and refreshed as they went through there portion of the conference. We were told many times that they were so blessed to have their children so well looked after and to be learning about God during their times. What a joy to serve those who are pouring their lives out in hard places for the sake of the gospel. Make God continue to work through them! I am so thankful to have had this chance to meet these families!
